Italy, drug network destroyed

Several dozen arrests were carried across Italy as part of an investigation Carabinieri Special Operations Unit to a criminal organization active in drug trafficking and funded by the Calabrian Ndrangheta crime families.

The investigation, coordinated by the Regional Anti Mafia in Milan, began about a year ago after the murder of a trafficker, Italian media reports in online editions.

According to sources, there are 52 arrest warrants issued by prosecutors subjects to whom they suspect have been trafficked narcotics at the international level.

Investigations have documented how the organization, using the sea, importing cocaine from Colombia and Ecuador, introduced in Europe through the ports of Antwerp and Hamburg.

Since morning, ROS carabinieri are conducting arrests in the regions of Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont, Sicily, Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata.
